Professional background

- Graduated with law degree (LL.B) from Nottingham University in 1976.
- Employed as a shipbroker in London from 1977 to 1987.
- Set up the commercial division in London of international maritime company in 1987, moved to Montreal Canada to its headquarters in October that year joining its business development group.
- Moved back to London in 1992 having purchased an old established dry-cargo shipbroking company.
- Between 1992 and 1998 diversified the company into tankers (oil and gas) with the acquisition of a division from a UK PLC, ship sale-and-purchase, and specialised mineral sand importing division. Established a joint-venture with a small London merchant bank offering ship finance and derivative trading.
- Returned to Montreal in 1998 to the same shipping company as Vice-President Finance. Later transitioned to a new role as Vice-President Business Development.
- Established an overseas office in Singapore in 2011 and moved there to run it.
- Retired in 2014, moving to Cornwall UK where I purchased a small well-established joinery business. Grew the business and then gave it to the employees in a (sort-of) employee trust. Remain as company secretary.
